...ruddy journal isn't working again...

Of course, what you see above you isn't the animation. It is merely a character idea and the reason I didn't do the animation via tablet.

To see the animation, keep reading.

...still reading?...

...good!

Since DA doesn't like Windows Movie Maker, I've finally gotten out of my Amish rut and opened up a YouTube account for my animations. There is only one right now, but here's the info:

[link]

Every year, Bridgestone/Firestone tires has a contest called "Safety Scholars". The idea is to promote driving safety for the ages of 16-21 via a commercial. The top three winners gets 5,000 in scholarship and their entry is aired as a public service announcement on TV.

Mine was "Don't Clown Around While Driving".

The idea came to me when I was brainstorming for my entry. I realized that, in order for it to be a good commercial, it would have to be (1) funny and/or (2) impacting, like an accident or a touching poem/song. That's when I came up with the idea of clowns teaching a driver's educational class.

After all, isn't there a nice bit of irony in the idea of something iconic as funny talking about something that can turn out so tragic?

Anyways, cross your fingers that I get picked for the top ten/top three!!

Vote here (soon): [link]

The animation was done by hand on 3x5 index cards, scanned into the computer and adjusted for size, then put together using GIF Animator and Windows Movie Maker. My dad did the voice of the Clown Teacher.

As this is my first full animation (commercials run 25 or 55 seconds long) with sound, I really hope everyone who goes to take a look comes back to comment...or, better yet, comments on my new YouTube page!!

Either way, please let me know what you think. I really want to get paid for animating one day, so this is just the first real stepping stone for paving that path.

Well, I'm going to catch up with a couple hours of sleep before I have to go to work!

G'nite!!

No its not funny, mr. Clown! I'll never listen to loud music or text while driving again!

... actually, the commercial was so good, I never texted or listened to loud music to begin with (while driving, at least)

Voting isn't up yet, but the second link I provided (SafetyScholars.com) will eventually have the videos posted for people to vote...so keep watching!

When they open the polls, I'll do a journal.

When Hugh Jackman was tried for a lead role in "Oklahoma", he sang the first line in the
chorus from "Oh What a Beautiful Morning", and then promptly forgot the rest of the words.
If he can make it, there is hope for the rest of us.
