My grandmother sent me this email:

HELL EXPLAINED BY A CHEMISTRY STUDENT

The following is an actual question given on a University of Arizona chemistry mid term, and an actual answer turned in by a student.

The answer by one student was so ' profound' that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well :

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving, which is unlikely. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today.

Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, 'It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you,' and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number two must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct..... ...leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting 'Oh my God.'

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED AN A+.

...makes you think, doesn't it?

Moving things around...again (EDITED)

Fri Sep 4, 2009, 6:44 PM
Hi everyone.
I'm back for a bit. For anyone looking forward to comics or art that I owe you, I thank you for being so patient. I will have any and all owed artwork finished and posted by the end of Saturday this week.

Recently, I was featured by Truro in a meme she did...I just wanted to say a big public "THANK YOU!!!" to her because it really made my day.

In the spirit of trying to actually get serious about my art and animation, I have now created three DA areas:

(1) My main DA page [ :iconangel-with-a-flower: ] will be my sketches, my fan art, my goofing around, and all the art I owe people. This will be the least professional of the three.

(2) My comic DA page [ :icon1purgatory2late: ] will be hosting my comic "Purgatory". I will be continuing the updates every Monday and will no longer fall behind on any pages or miss out on posting (except when it cannot be helped, like a hurricane knocking out the power or going to a funeral or something).

EDIT: New pages have been uploaded to "Purgatory". Go bask in the new-page glory! :)

(3) My animation DA page [ :iconmacystudio: ] will be my professional portfolio. It will host any and all of my animation, the trials and errors, and hopefully catalog my improvements between now and when I finally try to apply for a real animation job.

If you do not care to follow any of the new pages, that's fine. I'm not asking you to. I will make mention of any new animation postings when I make journals here, but you are on your own to follow the Monday comic schedule (you lazy lazies, you). You may notice certain older things disappearing from this account...that will be because I am shifting it to another account.

EDIT: Everything has now been shifted. It was mostly older animations, for anyone wondering.

In other news...my birthday is this week.
I shall be going to Disney.
 Yay!

EDIT: Wow...378 pictures, 135 journals, and I only have 2 comments to reply to? Ouch, folks!! What do I have to do to get people to comment on my pictures?!

[NOTE: Mood icon changed to fit the edit]

  • Mood: Grouchy
  • Listening to: "Dance with the Devil" Breaking Benjamin
  • Reading: "Th1rteen R3asons Why" Jay Asher
  • Watching: Psych; s1 and s2

Sorry

Wed Aug 19, 2009, 11:04 AM
Currently, my house is being turned upside down and rearranged in an "end-of-summer" cleaning process, so my scanner and main computer are both currently unplugged. So...

To :iconsaaio:, I WILL be getting your (really really really belated) birthday art to you in all it's shiny and colorful glory just as soon as I can.

To :iconlazloxedward-club: and :iconillustrious-crackpot:, I WILL be entering your contest as soon as I can...Sorry for the annoying delay!!!! ^^;

To anyone who actually still reads :icon1purgatory2late:, I'm sorry, but the comic will be on hiatus until further notice. I AM still making/drawing/inking the pages, so when everything finally comes back online, I will flood your inbox with new pages.

I will most likely not be online very often as I am currently busy with the above-mentioned cleaning, covering extra days for the feuding co-workers where I work, and applying to scholarships like crazy.

Sorry.

Laughing tiredly...but PLEASE VOTE!!!

So, apparently when I said that I would never do an "un-inspirational poster", I was telling the truth. My two Simpsons themed pictures ("I really wanted to Resist" and "Ok, so here's another one...") have been deleted for "due to Copyright Violation" and "Art Theft (general)".

Art theft??

I laughed when I read that (mostly because I'm so tired right now). I honestly don't know what to think about this one. The Copyright Violation I can imagine since I took them straight from a captured video, but art theft? Seriously?

And now for something completely different:

I. Am. Tired.
So very, very, very tired.

I have been staying up to the extreme these last two weeks, going to work after only two or three hours of sleep. I have neglected my "Purgatory" comic (sorry to anyone who is actually reading it still...I do appreciate your time and attention!!). "Why?" you may ask...

I've been doing another animated commercial/video for a scholarship.

This one is sixty seconds long, sync'd to a pre-supplied music track, and colored.

Yes, I said it.

COLORED.

FULLY COLORED.

Do I have your attention now?

I hope so, because I'm going to be posting it on my YouTube account (user name is MacyStudio) on Saturday afternoon. I will be posting the non-music version here with a link that will ask you to go look at a webpage and vote for my video.

Please vote. I really could use the scholarship money.

My YouTube video URL: [link]

Please, please, please vote!!!

In continuous news:

Take a look at :iconarteche: journal here:
[link]

It is a really cool project and looks like a lot of fun.

Why not join in too?

Please remember:

:icon1purgatory2late: updates on Monday and, depending on the rest of my week, Friday. (It will be updating this Monday!!!)

  • Listening to: The voices in my head...telling me to go to bed...
